Chapel Hill Police are investigating a reported carjacking that occurred early Wednesday morning.

Officers responded to the incident on North Columbia Street just before 5 a.m. Wednesday, according to a release from the police department.

Multiple suspects – one displaying a handgun – approached the victim “and forced her to turn over her vehicle,” police said.

Police then located the two vehicles used by the suspects to flee the scene. The second vehicle was determined to have been reported stolen in Durham.

Authorities said one of the suspects, 17-year-old Jahquez Mitchell, of Greensboro, has been arrested when attempting to flee officers Wednesday. He was charged with felony counts of robbery with a dangerous weapon and larceny of a vehicle along with a misdemeanor count of resisting a public officer.

He was being held in the Orange County Jail under a $125,000 secured bond, according to law enforcement.
