After a short foot chase, a suspect in a series of burglaries in Orange and Durham counties was arrested on Thursday.

Authorities say deputies from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office were called to “several residential burglaries in the northeast part of the county” on Friday, June 2.

Montre Cates, of Durham, was identified as a suspect, according to law enforcement, in four home burglaries in Orange County and one in Durham County.

Cates was taken into custody in Durham on Thursday by local law enforcement with assistance from the United States Marshal Service, according to officials. Authorities say Cates had refused to surrender to officers and had failed to appear in court on Wednesday.

Cates is now being held in the Orange County Detention Facility under a $15,000 secured bond.

Anyone with information regarding this investigation is asked to contact the Orange County Sheriff’s Office at (919) 245-2900.
