Chapel Hill will soon have three new restaurant additions: The Flying Biscuit Café, Blue House Café and the expanded Brandwein’s Bagels.

The Flying Biscuit Café is set to open Monday, January 31 at University Place. The restaurant is part of a national chain serving southern-style breakfast food.

The Flying Biscuit Café is moving into a new space within University Place’s initial phase of redevelopment. The café is located between Hawkers and bartaco at University place and will be able to seat about 110 patrons indoors and 30 on the outdoor patio.

Blue House Café is also set to open January 31. The business is a UNC student-founded coffee shop and is located at 462 West Franklin Street. It began as a pop-up coffee shop in November 2021. Now, Blue House Café will be open Monday through Friday between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.

“We’ve taken the last month to learn from our pop-up shops, hire some new faces, find a great local roaster to work with, and get the shop ready to serve the Chapel Hill community,” the coffee shop said on social media. “We can’t wait to have you back.”

The coffee shop aims to display artwork by local artists and UNC students, promote community and local organizations and host local musicians for live music hours, according to its social media.

Brandwein’s Bagels will soon have a new expansion to its business. The New York style bagel shop is expanding into the building next door located at 503 West Rosemary Street.

The Chapel Hill business announced it would temporarily close beginning Thursday as part of its renovations.

“Thank you so much to this amazing community!” the business said on social media. “We are so grateful for your support, and cannot wait to see your smiling faces back in our shop again!”

During the closure, the business will temporarily move into the 503 West Rosemary Street space while the 505 West Rosemary Street shop is upgraded.

The 505 West Rosemary spot was the former home of Bread & Butter Bakery which closed amid the COVID-19 pandemic.

Brandwein’s Bagels previously announced the plans for renovation in June 2021 almost one year since the business opened in August 2020.
