The Town of Chapel Hill will kick off its annual “Movies Under The Stars” series this Thursday. The series gives outdoor showings of family-friendly films throughout the summer, and will be held at the Forest Theatre on the UNC campus.

The first showing will be on Thursday, July 21, beginning at sundown (usually between 8 and 8:30 p.m.). The chosen film is Pixar’s recent release “Soul,” which follows the adventures of a middle-school band teacher through The Great Before — a place where new souls get their personalities.

According to the town, the nearest parking areas available for the event are the Cobb Parking Deck on Paul Green Drive and the Park Place lot at South Boundary Street. Street parking is available, including free parking on the west end of Franklin Street starting at 6 p.m. The town also recommends bringing a cushion or blanket, water and a flashlight. No outside food or drinks other than water are allowed.

Movies Under The Stars runs through August 18, and will feature hit films such as Encanto, Inside Out and High School Musical.

These screenings are made possible thanks to Community Arts & Culture, Chapel Hill Public Library, and  UNC Arts Everywhere. For more information on the series, click here.
