After the coronavirus pandemic disrupted its application process, the Eno Art Mill in Hillsborough is once again taking applications. But this time, artists from marginalized communities are specifically encouraged to apply.

The Orange County Arts Commission shared a release on Tuesday saying it will be prioritizing applicants who are artists of color as it fills the remaining studio spaces in the renovated historical Eno Mill.  Like with all of its tenants, accepted applicants will be required to sign a one-year lease with the arts commission for the space.

The arts commission initially reopened applications for the new art studios in February, following tours of the facility where artists gave feedback to allow the county further improvements before leasing out space. The West Hillsborough facility features nine private studios with two additional studios being created in late June. Leased artists can utilize 24/7 access, exhibit space in both the studios and hallways, wi-fi and a shared common space with a kitchen and cabinet storage.

Orange County began restoring the Eno Mill in partnership with the Gold Family and Hedgehog Holdings shortly after authorization from the local governments in October. The goal of the space is provide space in critical need by the Orange County creative community, as well as generating economic impact for the surrounding local businesses.

The Orange County Arts Commission is accepting applications for studio space in the Eno Arts Mill through Sunday, July 12 with a target move-in date of August 1 for accepted artists. Any applications must be submitted through the county’s online portal here.
