As the May 17 primary date gets closer in North Carolina, one of the most crowded races on Orange County’s ballots this year is the Democratic primary for Congressional District 04.
The district, which covers all of Orange and Durham counties, has been led by Rep. David Price for several decades. After Price announced his plans to retire at the end of 2022 , a flurry of filings led to eight Democratic candidates and two Republican candidates vying for nominations.
Democrats Valerie Foushee, Nida Allam, Ashley Ward, Crystal Cavalier, Clay Aiken, Stephen Valentine, Richard Watkins and Matt Grooms are currently on the campaign trail. Five of them (Allam, Cavalier, Valentine, Ward and Watkins) participated in a forum hosted April 6 by the Democratic Women of Orange County NC.
