It’s Primary Election Day across North Carolina with voters putting in their choices for the Democratic and Republican representatives for state level offices and President of the United States.
Ferrel Guillory is a professor of the practice in the School of Media and Journalism and founded the Program on Public Life – formerly the Program on Southern Politics, Media and Public Life.
Guillory spoke with WCHL’s Blake Hodge about this primary cycle, which was moved up on the calendar in an attempt to make North Carolina more of a player in the Presidential election, and if he remembers any previous elections seeming this wide open in the primary races. Guillory says while it is difficult to draw parallels to the 2016 primary, this most reminds him of the race for President in 1976.
