The UNC women’s tennis team enters the 2016 spring season tied for fourth in the team rankings which were released by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association on Tuesday.

Carolina leads six other Atlantic Coast Conference programs in the rankings. The Tar Heels are joined by Virginia at number seven, Miami at 13, Duke at 16, Clemson at number 20 and Georgia Tech ranked 23.

Senior Whitney Kay and junior Hayley Carter are ranked as the number two doubles team entering the spring semester.

The spring dual match season begins on Sunday for the Tar Heels at Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center, where Carolina will host Elon and Appalachian State.

Meanwhile, the Tar Heel men’s tennis team starts the 2016 spring season as the ninth-ranked team in the country.

UNC’s Brett Clark and Robert Kelly are also ranked as the number one doubles team in the country. Junior Ronnie Schneider is the highest ranked singles player for Carolina, checking in at number 13.

The Tar Heel men’s tennis squad will start its spring season on January 16 hosting Georgetown and North Carolina A&T.
