***UPDATE: Mark Marcoplos has filed for the at-large seat on the Board of County Commissioners, as of Monday afternoon.***
Filing is entering its final seven days in Orange County for the 2016 elections.
Several seats on the Board of County Commissioners will be decided by voters early next year.
Andy Cagle and Matt Hughes have both filed to run for the at-large seat on the board. Mark Marcoplos has also announced his intentions to run, but he has not officially filed for the seat that will be vacated as Bernadette Pelissier has chosen not to seek re-election.
Three candidates have filed for two county commissioner seats out of District 1, incumbents Mark Dorosin and Penny Rich, along with challenger Gary Kahn – who ran unsuccessfully for county commissioner in 2014 and Chapel Hill Mayor in 2015.
Bonnie Hauser has filed to challenge incumbent Renee Price for the District 2 seat on the board.
Three seats are up for election on the Orange County School Board. Two incumbents, Stephen Halkiotis and Tony McKnight, have filed for re-election while newcomer John Hamilton has also filed as a candidate.
No candidates have filed at this point for the one two-year unexpired term on the Orange County Board of Education.
Incumbent Valerie Foushee has filed to run for re-election to the District 23 Seat in the North Carolina Senate and incumbent House Representatives Graig Meyer and Verla Insko have filed to run for another term in office. No challengers have filed at this point.
District Court Judge Charles Anderson will not be seeking re-election. Two candidates have filed to fill his seat, Sam Cooper and Samantha Cabe. Judges Jay Bryan, Lunsford Long and Beverly Scarlett have all filed for re-election.
US 4th District Congressman David Price has filed for re-election. Price could face a challenge in the general election; Republican Sue Googe has also filed for the seat.
Filing runs through noon on December 21.
Early voting for the 2016 primary will be held March 3 – March 12. The Primary Election Day will be held March 15.
