Early voting numbers in Orange County are continuing to outpace the 2012 turnout numbers as we enter the final week of early voting.

Through Saturday, 37,514 Orange County residents had already voted; that is almost exactly 9,000 more votes than were cast through the same point in 2012 – 28,515.

Carrboro Town Hall continues to lead the five early voting sites in the county with 9,871 votes cast. The Seymour Center (8,938) and Board of Elections office in Hillsborough (8,488) have also surpassed 8,000 votes cast. Chapel of the Cross has been picking up the pace and averaged more than 1,000 voters per day during the second week of early voting; that upswing can be attributed to its location next to the UNC campus and the students returning from fall break. The Efland Ruritan Club has seen 2,442 voters through Saturday.

Polling numbers continue to show tight races in North Carolina for president, governor and senate. The down-ballot contests in Tar Heel state are equally divided. Survey results show that Democrats are gathering big leads during early voting, which was expected. It is unclear if the lead will be enough to withstand what is expected to be an Election Day comeback for Republicans.

Early voting runs through Saturday with Election Day set for November 8. Early voting hours will end at five o’clock Monday evening due to Halloween celebrations in Chapel Hill.
