Samantha Cabe has won the race for District Court Judge in District 15B, which includes Chatham and Orange Counties, over her opponent Sam Cooper. Cabe won with an almost 20 percentage point lead.
Sherri Murrell has also beaten two-term judge Lunsford Long for District Court Judge, by almost 50 percentage points. However, Long previously ended his reelection campaigning. Long reached that conclusion after it became clear that the North Carolina General Assembly was not going to raise the retirement age limit for District Court Judges. Long would reach the mandatory retirement age during this next term.
If Long were elected and he did age out during the term, the governor would have to appoint his replacement. In a letter to Orange and Chatham counties, Long had said this was something he was trying to avoid by bowing out.
