Exploring Your Creative Genius

In last week’s show my guest, Fred Saleeby, shared some stories about his career selling products and services. I would often tell my Duke students that they are missing important experiences building their business and professional skills if they have never been in sales.

In this show I revisit a topic I discussed a couple of years ago. Liminality refers to the transition, the in-between moments and spaces where one state ends and another has not yet begun—it’s the threshold of transformation.

It was wonderful talking with Charlie Grantham on Sunday’s show. A man of many interests, his current focus is on the Future of Work. He made so many important and useful observations and let me highlight a couple for you here.

David Mattson returned for a second show last week to build on the first, focused on advice for those of us who have recently lost our jobs, by introducing us to Jack Mezirow’ work.

In many different creative moments I urge you to celebrate the increment. This is another situation where it will serve you. Break down the changes you want to make, need to make, into tiny manageable steps.

This show is spending lots of time helping us think about the Future of Unknowns.  In last week’s episode I focused on specific Creative and Entrepreneurial concepts and behaviors that should be especially  helpful as you make your way.

The last show was a collection of quotes relevant to various aspects of being Creative; some from the well-known like Picasso, Emerson, Bruce Lee, and Buckminster Fuller and some from unknown sources.

In the most recent show you heard some of the reasons folks have shared with me for why they don’t consider themselves creative. While I certainly love helping folks become more creative and entrepreneurial I love it even more when folks convinced they aren’t creative tell me they now realize they are.

In last week’s show I shared some thoughts about the relationship between love and creativity. They are deeply intertwined, as love—both romantic love and a general love for life—serves as a powerful catalyst for creative expression.
