Exploring Your Creative Genius: Episode 149
In this week’s show I talked about the creative and entrepreneurial powers of Story—those powers are significant.
One of the reasons Story is so important is the way our brains respond when we are being told a story. When information is shared with you, you are a passive listener. When that same information is shared with you wrapped in elements of story, your brain’s response is as an active participant in the story.
It’s great when you have had the chance ahead of time to prepare the story you will tell. When you can’t, which will be frequently so, just try to add as many narrative elements you can to the information you are sharing. Mention other characters. Show progress being made. Identify the challenges overcome and those on the horizon. Talk about the significance of it all.
And keep in mind that story is so insistent that if you share information with your department or team without putting it in the context of a story the first thing folks will do is craft a story that helps them understand the information.

“Exploring Your Creative Genius” takes an expansive view on what it means to be creative and entrepreneurial in an ongoing conversation led by Carl Nordgren — entrepreneur, novelist, and lifelong student with decades of experience growing his own creative capacity and assisting others to do the same in exciting new ways!
