Exploring Your Creative Genius: Episode 153

In this week’s show my guest, the entrepreneur Nick Sih, talked about the ventures he’s successfully started and grown, and also talked about the business soon to launch.

One of the ideas that showed up a couple of times in his venture stories was the importance of presence. Of being there. First hand. On the scene. Building your own feeling for what’s happening.

It reminded me of a phrase that I loved when I first heard it and then, I think, I improved it.

I first heard it as “If you want to understand something new, don’t study it — get used to it.”

As I said, I dug that right away so it took me a few months to understand it is much more usefully stated as “If you want to understand something new, first get used to it. Then, study it.”

There’s all sorts of research that finds when we have an emotional, a sensual, appreciation for a new topic or challenge or opportunity we will better understand the facts, the details, we subsequently gather.
