Exploring Your Creative Genius: Episode 152
This week’s show was a conversation with Judith Pacht, an award-winning poet who has become one of my favorites.
I offer you here some quotes from poets about poetry.
“If it feels physically as if the top of my head were taken off, I know that is poetry.”
Emily Dickinson. Judith’s poem ‘Untied’, which she read on the show, did that to me when I first read it.
“Poetry is one of the ancient arts, and it begins as did all the fine arts, within the original wilderness of the earth.”
Mary Oliver, another of my favorite poets. Judith has several poems in her recent collection, ‘Precarious’, that help me feel that wilderness. Her poem ‘The Voice of a Frog’ comes to mind.
“I would define the Poetry of words as The Rhythmical Creation of Beauty.”
Edgar Allen Poe. ‘Fable on Erasure’ is one of Judith’s poems that captures me in its rhythms.
“Poetry is the spontaneous overflow of powerful feelings: it takes its origin from emotion recollected in tranquility.”
William Wordsworth. ‘Sidewinder’ is filled with emotion delivered peacefully.
Thanks for sharing your beauty, Judith.
