The Diamond Heels scored five runs in the bottom of the second inning on their way to an 8-4 win against Charlotte at Boshamer Stadium Tuesday night.
UNC’s rally started after two consecutive doubles from Owen Hull and Colin Hynek scored the game’s first run. Rom Kellis, Jake Schaffner and Gavin Gallaher would each pick up RBIs before the inning was over, and Carolina led 5-0.
Those runs came in support of Jackson Rose, who started the game and lasted three innings. Camron Seagraves earned his second win of the season with two innings of no-hit relief, and Tom Chmielewski logged the longest outing of his UNC career with 3.1 innings pitched.
Meanwhile, UNC scored runs in the fourth, seventh and eighth to extend its lead to 8-1 entering the ninth inning. Charlotte scored three runs after being down to its final out, but Matthew Matthijs was finally able to slam the door on Carolina’s third consecutive win.
The Diamond Heels are now 28-5-1 overall on the season and 20-4-1 at Boshamer Stadium. Carolina will be back in action Friday when it visits Clemson for a three-game series. First pitch of Friday’s opening game is scheduled for 6 p.m.
