A Briar Chapel resident faces several felony drug charges following the search of his home earlier in February.
A release shared by the Chatham County Sheriff’s Office on Tuesday said deputies arrested and charged 31-year-old Christopher Markham on Feb. 11 after searching his residence alongside investigators with the Alamance County Sheriff’s Office. The search led to the seizure of marijuana, psilocybin mushrooms and drug paraphernalia, according to the alert.
Markham’s felony charges include one count of possession of a firearm by a felon, one count of maintaining a dwelling for controlled substances, three counts of possession of a Schedule VI controlled substance, one count of possession of a Schedule I controlled substance, one count of intention to manufacture, sell or deliver Schedule I controlled substance. Additionally, because Markham’s residence is nearby to Margaret B. Pollard Middle School in the Briar Chapel neighborhood, he faces a felony count of manufacturing, selling, delivering, or possessing controlled substances within 1,000 feet of a school.
According to public records, Markham’s arrested was related to similar charges out of Guilford County related to a Markham’s Auto maintenance business in Gibsonville, which investigators allege was being used as a location to sell and distribute drugs. He was transported to the Alamance County Detention Center.
As a result of the charges, Markham received a $16,000 secured bond from the Chatham County magistrate, which he posted on Feb. 19. He is scheduled to make his first appearance in court on the charges on Mar. 4 at the Chatham County Justice Center in Pittsboro.
