After a home win against Notre Dame and a road win at then-No. 14 Virginia, UNC rose six spots in the latest AP Top 25 poll to No. 16 this week.
UNC’s six-spot jump is the largest of any team in the poll. After dropping to No. 22 following road losses at unranked Stanford and Cal, the Tar Heels rebounded with a 91-69 win against Notre Dame in Chapel Hill and an 85-80 win at Virginia in which UNC erased a 16-point deficit. It was Carolina’s first road win in ACC play and Virginia’s first home loss of the season. The No. 14 Cavaliers were the highest-ranked team the Tar Heels have beaten this season.
Elsewhere in the ACC, Duke is the highest-ranked conference member at No. 4. Virginia dropped three spots at No. 17 following its loss to UNC, while Louisville rose three spots to No. 20 and Clemson dropped four spots No. 22. NC State and SMU also received votes. UNC will be back in action when it visits Georgia Tech in Atlanta Saturday at 2 p.m.
On the women’s side, the Tar Heels remained unranked in the latest AP Poll despite a 2-0 week. UNC is the top unranked team. Carolina has now been unranked for three consecutive weeks, matching the longest drought for the program since the end of the 2023-24 season. Louisville is the highest-ranked ACC team at No. 7, with Duke charting in at No. 20 as the only other ranked conference team. For a full look at the women’s poll, click here.
