Injured UNC star Seth Trimble will return to action when the Tar Heels face Ohio State at the CBS Sports Classic in Atlanta this weekend. CBS Sports’ Matt Norlander reported Trimble “is expected to be in the starting lineup.” After Inside Carolina and Field of 68 both reported Trimble would return, the UNC program confirmed the news on social media.
Trimble last suited up for the Tar Heels in a Nov. 7 win against No. 19 Kansas at the Smith Center. Two days later, the program announced the senior guard had broken his left forearm in a weight room accident and was ruled out indefinitely. Trimble has missed UNC’s last nine games, during which time Carolina went 8-1. Saturday’s game against Ohio State will mark five weeks and six days since the injury.
Trimble had appeared with his forearm either in a cast or a brace while sitting on the UNC bench since the injury. But he shed the brace entirely for Carolina’s game against USC Upstate on Dec. 13. At that time, head coach Hubert Davis said Trimble was going through individual workouts but not yet practicing with the team. Two days later on his radio show, Davis then said Trimble had been practicing and “progressing nicely.” Trimble once again appeared without the brace the next night when the Tar Heels hosted East Tennessee State but did not play.
In two appearances this season, Trimble averaged 14.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 3.5 assists per game. He started both contests.
UNC’s game against Ohio State Saturday tips off at 3 p.m. in Atlanta. The Tar Heels and Buckeyes are the second game of the day following Kentucky’s contest against No. 22 St. John’s, which tips off at 12:30 p.m.
