Both the UNC men’s and women’s soccer teams were in action Thursday at Dorrance Field, and both teams came away with shutout victories.
In the first match of the doubleheader, the women’s team throttled UNC-Greensboro 4-0, scoring two goals apiece in the first and second halves. Freshman Bella Devey opened the scoring in the 19th minute with her first collegiate goal, finishing a long solo run with a low shot into the Spartan net.
Reigning national player of the year Kate Faasse was next, scoring the first goal of her 2025 season in the 35th minute to double the advantage.
Faasse scored again in the second half, less than two minutes after Linda Ullmark had scored a goal of her own. It was more than enough to secure a third straight home shutout for the Tar Heels, who outshot the Spartans 25-5 and allowed just one shot on goal.
UNC is now 3-2 on the season and undefeated at home. The Tar Heels will be back in action when they host Wisconsin-Milwaukee at Dorrance Field Sunday at 12 p.m.
In the nightcap, the men’s team hosted Evansville and took a 0-0 draw into halftime, but sealed a third straight victory with a pair of goals in the second half. Ryan Dugan found the back of the net in the 70th minute, and Luca Nikolai doubled the advantage less than six minutes later to put the match out of reach for the Purple Aces. UNC’s defense held Evansville to just one total shot in the second half and three overall in the 2-0 victory.
The Tar Heels, who broke into the Top 25 of the United Soccer Coaches Poll earlier in the week at No. 15, are now 3-0 on the young season. UNC will make its first road trip of 2025 when it visits College of Charleston Monday night at 6 p.m.
