The spoils were shared on both sides in a Thursday doubleheader at Dorrance Field, as the UNC men’s and women’s soccer teams each drew with their opponents.

The No. 3 women fought to their second scoreless draw in three matches on the young season, a 0-0 result against unranked Wisconsin. The Tar Heels didn’t lack for chances, outshooting the Badgers 16-1 and sending eight shots on the Wisconsin goal, but could not find a breakthrough. Strikers Olivia Thomas and Ally Sentnor tied for the team lead with four shots each. Carolina is now 1-0-2 on the season and will face No. 24 USC in Chapel Hill on Sunday at 1 p.m.

The men’s team took the pitch in the nightcap to host Loyola-Maryland in the regular season opener. Carolina found itself on the back foot early, as the Greyhounds scored less than two minutes into the game. The Tar Heels got themselves back on level terms with a penalty kick from Ahmad Al Qaq late in the half and continued to see chances throughout the second half, but couldn’t find a tiebreaker. Carolina ended the night with 20 shots compared to just six from Loyola.

The men’s team will be back in action on Sunday night at 7:30 when it hosts American in Chapel Hill.
