One of University Place’s longest-standing businesses is once again transitioning to a new space at the Chapel Hill mall.
The Frame & Print Shop, currently located in Suite 400C of 201 Estes Drive, is relocating and expanding this weekend to Suite 102 at University Place — which will put the locally-owned custom framing business in between the Stoney River restaurant and the Silverspot movie theater. The shop is one of the mall’s original tenants, opening with the rest of University Place in 1973.
While they have been gradually preparing for the move in recent days, the Frame & Print Shop said in a message to patrons on its website it will complete the transition on Sunday, Mar. 2 and Monday, Mar. 3. The shop is typically closed on Sundays, but will be closed on Monday as well before opening the doors to the new location on Tuesday, Mar. 4.
The move marks the third time the Frame & Print Shop has relocated within University Place in recent years, as the store was one of the businesses inside the mall building for many years before moving to have an external entrance in 2021 as part of University Place’s redevelopment plan. Suite 400C is next to an area where construction is underway to transform the existing building into a new storefront and plaza, with University Place’s master plan showing the space taking up much of what once was the mall’s interior space.
Once open in the new location, the Frame & Print Shop’s relocation will add to a variety of business openings at the Chapel Hill mall in recent weeks. Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams started its soft opening of its location on the east of the mall property Thursday, while WakeMed opened a MyCare 365 primary and urgent care clinic on Feb. 10 in one of the newest standalone buildings.
Another staple at University Place is also in the process of relocating: Alfredo’s Pizza Villa. The business is preparing to move to a new space within the ground floor corner of the 900 Willow apartment building, on the north end of the property where the restaurant currently is housed. A temporary Alfredo’s Pizza Villa sign is currently hanging outside the space to highlight the upcoming move while operations continue at its current space next to the north mall entrance.

An Alfredo’s Pizza Villa sign signifying its move is hung outside its future location within the 900 Willow building at University Place.
The Frame & Print Shop’s hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Mondays through Saturdays.
