The Hillsborough Police Department announced charges against a Charlotte resident on Saturday after his arrest over a shooting.
A release from police said 75-year-old Stephan Brooks is charged with first-degree attempted murder and first-degree kidnapping after an incident in the early morning hours of Saturday.
According to the alert, police officers saw a woman in distress running across Cardinal Drive — which is off South Churton Street — around 1:30 a.m. After assessing her, they realized the woman had suffered a gunshot wound to the chest. Police said the victim was transported to Duke University Hospital for treatment and, as of Sunday afternoon, is in stable condition.

Brooks was arrested, according to Hillsborough Police, after officers in the area saw a vehicle attempting to leave. They stopped the vehicle, seized a firearm, and arrested the Charlotte resident without incident.
Saturday’s release said the incident is still under investigation and anyone who may have more information is encouraged to contact Investigator Vidal Morales at 919-296-9571 or by email.
