The hairstyling salon Moshi Moshi is preparing to reopen its doors on West Franklin Street in Chapel Hill after undergoing extensive repairs and redesigns following the Mediterranean Deli fire last July.

The business shared an update with its patrons on Friday, announcing it will reopen its original location at 416 W. Franklin Street on Wednesday, April 3 with revamped hours and a new layout. Damaged by smoke and water during the response to the neighboring Mediterranean Deli’s roof fire, the salon initially said in July it would be closed for an extended period of time and shifted customers to its Durham location.

In Friday’s message, Moshi Moshi leadership said the closure also gave the business time “to take stock of where we were and our future needs.”

“We have revamped Moshi Moshi, a beautiful, brightly lit space nestled in the back of our original flagship location,” the alert said to clients. “We are correct sizing to suit our needs and know that you will be tickled at the outcome.”

The reconfigured space means Moshi Moshi will add a new business as its roommate: The Glass Box. Friday’s message to clients described The Glass Box as a home and lifestyle boutique owned and operated by designer Gaussen Hamner. Located at the front of 416 W. Franklin Street, it will sell things like lighting pieces, furniture and home accessories.

With the reopening, Moshi Moshi’s Chapel Hill location will also have adjusted hours, operating Wednesdays through Saturdays. The salon will be open Wednesdays from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., Thursdays from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m., and Fridays and Saturdays from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

“I want to say how much I and all the Moshettes truly appreciate your continued support,” said Friday’s alert to clients. “This has been a very long road to our reopening, and we are so grateful to you for taking your extra time and energy to drive to Durham to keep us busy and relevant. It is because of your efforts that I have been able to sustain a thriving business and I salute you!”

Neighboring businesses DB Sutton & Company and Simply Audrey, which were also affected by the fire response, have been reopened and operating for several months. The remaining business yet to fully reopen after July’s fire is the titular one, as Mediterranean Deli is continuing its own repairs. When the popular restaurant opened its new location in Elon earlier in March, the business said it is still “rebuilding” its tentpole location at 410 West Franklin Street. Mediterranean Deli, however, has been using space at 450 West Franklin Street for its catering and event operations.
