The UNC men’s and women’s lacrosse teams both fell on Saturday, with the men dropping a close home contest to No. 6 Army and the women’s team falling on the road at No. 4 Boston College.

The men’s team lost 13-12 despite holding a 7-5 halftime lead and a 10-9 lead heading into the fourth quarter. The Black Knights scored three goals in the span of 3:01 to open the fourth, taking their first lead of the game at 12-10. Carolina rallied to tie the score at 12-12 with 5:29 left, but Army went back ahead for good on a goal with 52 seconds left. Carolina didn’t get another shot off in the final minute.

Freshman Owen Duffy led Carolina with five goals and accounted for 14 of the team’s 42 shots. No other Tar Heel scored more than two goals. Carolina has now dropped two straight games and sits at 6-4 overall heading into ACC play. UNC will visit No. 2 Virginia next Saturday at noon.

The women’s team’s struggles continued in an 18-12 loss at Boston College. After Carolina started strong and led 3-1 in the first quarter, the Eagles ripped off a 6-0 run to take control and lead 7-3. Carolina cut the deficit to 8-7 early in the third quarter, but never got any closer. Boston College led by as many as eight goals in the second half. Sophomore midfielder Darcy Felter led Carolina with four goals on five shots.

UNC is 7-5 overall and 3-3 in ACC play, having dropped two games in a row and three of its last four. The Tar Heels will return home next weekend to host Virginia Tech at Dorrance Field at noon.
