According to reports from Inside Lacrosse and USA Lacrosse, a trio of highly-touted UNC women’s lacrosse stars will miss the entire 2024 season due to injuries.

Freshman attacker Chloe Humphrey, sophomore attacker Marissa White and junior defender Brooklyn Walker-Welch will all be sidelined. Humphrey is the top-ranked freshman in the Class of 2024, while White and Walker-Welch are each coming off outstanding 2023 campaigns. White was named to the ACC’s All-Freshman team, while Walker-Welch was named a first team All-American.

The reports surfaced on Tuesday, the same day three Tar Heels – including White – earned preseason All-ACC recognition. Defender Emily Nalls and midfielder Olivia Dirks were the other two players recognized.

The three injuries will present a challenge to Carolina’s depth, which has already taken preseason hits. Sophomore midfielder Kaleigh Harden suffered an injury during the fall and will miss the entire season, while goalkeeper Alecia Nicholas is likely to miss at least a few games as she recovers from treatment for thyroid cancer.

The No. 3 Tar Heels will begin their season on Saturday when they visit No. 8 James Madison at noon.
