Chapel Hill Resident Solomon Gibson III Enters CHCCS Board of Education Race

Longtime Chapel Hill resident Solomon Gibson III has entered the race for the Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools Board of Education. Gibson described himself as “a strong, uncompromising supporter of the public school system and teachers.”

Gibson described receiving a notice from the president of the Progressive Democrats of Orange County about the upcoming election.

“He was aware that I was searching for a public platform to share information on… what some see as the country’s number one issue,” Gibson said.

If elected, Gibson said one of his goals is “preventing state government from limiting the intellectual advancement of students,” while also advocating for resources and other benefits for students, teachers and staff.

“Over the years,” Gibson said, “I have developed little tolerance for those persons, leaders or institutions that would interfere and restrict supplying our children with all the information and necessary tools that would prepare them for a global future.”

Four seats on the Board of Education are up for grabs in this election cycle. Gibson is one of 19 candidates who have filed to run in the race.

Early voting for the fall local government elections begins on Thursday, October 19, while Election Day is Tuesday, November 7.
