The Chapel Hill Police Department announced a trio of arrests related to a murder at the South Estes Drive housing complex earlier this month.

A release on Friday afternoon said the investigation into the death of K’son Lamoriquia Thorpe resulted in charges against Sarod Folly, a 20-year-old Carrboro resident, and two juvenile suspects. A spokesperson for the Chapel Hill Police Department said two arrests happened on Thursday night, while a third took place Friday morning.

North Carolina law limits the public release of information regarding juveniles, part of a change in 2019 that makes it so 16- and 17-year-olds cannot be charged as adults. Unless the case is moved from juvenile court and the suspects are tried as adults in superior court, their identities will be kept confidential by investigators until they are no longer minors.

While the charges against the juvenile suspects were not disclosed, Folly faces three, according to Chapel Hill Police: conspiracy to commit armed robbery, conspiracy to commit homicide, and accessory after the fact to homicide.

Thorpe was found dead in the parking lot of the housing community located in the 300 block of South Estes Drive Extension on January 10, with police saying their received a 911 call around 10:30 p.m. The 27-year-old was a resident of Oxford, N.C.,  and was found dead with an apparent gunshot wound.

Chapel Hill Police said Folly is being held at the Orange County Detention Center without bond. The department’s investigation is ongoing and Friday’s release said no additional information is available at this time.
