The Chapel Hill Police Department said it is investigating three recent reports of indecent exposure downtown, with one person already charged for one of the incidents.
A release from the department Wednesday afternoon said officers arrested and charged 36-year-old Keith Gaskins earlier in the day for indecent exposure during Sunday afternoon. Gaskins, who is listed by police as having a Durham address, allegedly exposed himself in the 300 block of West Rosemary Street — which stretches from Church Street to Mitchell Lane.
Additionally, community members reported two different instances of indecent exposure in downtown Chapel Hill on Tuesday. Police said the first report was around 1 p.m. and was also in the 300 block of West Rosemary Street. The second occurred around 3 p.m. and was in the 100 block of East Franklin Street, which is between Columbia Street and Henderson Street.
Police said in the release that Tuesday’s incidents are believed to have the same male suspect and investigators are working to identify him.
Gaskins was released Wednesday on a written promise to appear in court on the indecent exposure charge. His initial court date in Hillsborough is set for Thursday, November 17.
Anyone who may have information about the pair of recent exposure incidents is encouraged to call 911 or contact the Chapel Hill Police Department directly at 919-968-2760. Callers who wish to remain anonymous can also use the Chapel Hill-Carrboro-UNC CrimeStoppers hotline at 919-942-7515 or visit the group’s website.
