Head coach Hubert Davis has snagged another highly-touted recruit. Four-star prospect Zayden High, rated as the No. 48 player in his class by 247 Sports, committed to Davis and the Tar Heels on Sunday.
High chose the Tar Heels over offers from Michigan and Villanova, among others. He’s the second recruit from the Class of 2023 to commit to the Tar Heels, along with five-star guard Simeon Wilcher. G.G. Jackson, one of the top recruits in the class, also originally committed to Carolina, but has since reclassified and signed with South Carolina. High’s commitment moves UNC’s class up to No. 19 in the country.
High, a 6-9 power forward from Spring Branch, TX, took an official visit to Chapel Hill the weekend of October 1, just three weeks after receiving a scholarship offer from the Tar Heels. The visit was supposed to coincide with “Live Action with Carolina Basketball,” but that event was postponed to the following weekend due to Hurricane Ian.
High will be part of a new generation of Tar Heel big men looking to fill the hole left by Armando Bacot’s likely departure after this coming season. High, Will Shaver and Jalen Washington are each likely to compete for the starting role after Bacot leaves.
