Labor Day Weekend, the unofficial end of summer, is coming up. Orange County residents can enjoy a day of rest and relaxation on Monday, September 5. The federal holiday means the majority of Americans will have the day off.
Here’s a list of what services will be altered in observance of Labor Day throughout Orange County:
Town of Chapel Hill
Chapel Hill Transit will not operate on Monday, September 5. The Chapel Hill Town Hall and other administrative offices will be closed.
Residential trash will not be collected on Monday, with a makeup day scheduled for Wednesday, September 7. Recycling and commercial trash will also not be collected, with recycling collection delayed by one day and commercial trash collected by the end of the week.
The Chapel Hill Public Library will be closed.
Public parks, greenways, trails and picnic shelters will be open on Monday. For more information, click here.
Town of Carrboro
Town offices will be closed on Monday, September 5. Yard waste collection will be postponed until Tuesday, September 6. For more information, click here.
Town of Hillsborough
Town offices will be closed on Monday, September 5. Garbage will be collected the following Tuesday, with services combining the normal Monday and Tuesday routes. The monthly bulk items collection will not be affected. For more information, click here.
Orange County Government
All Orange County government offices will be closed for the holiday. The Orange County Public Library will also be closed on Monday.
The Orange County Landfill and Waste and Recycling Centers will be closed. Curbside recycling collection will be delayed by one day.
Orange County’s weekday COVID-19 testing will be unaffected. The testing location in Hillsborough at 113 Mayo Street will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Registration is encouraged before getting a test. To register, click here.
