The ArtsCenter Names New Executive Director, Sets Relocation Timeline

The ArtsCenter in Carrboro is ushering in a new era of leadership to go along with its new digs.

The nonprofit announced Jenny Shultz-Thomas as its new executive director Monday morning, which was also her first day on the job. Shultz-Thomas previously served as pastor at First Plymouth Congregational Church in Englewood, CO., a suburb of Denver.

“I’m thrilled to be joining The ArtsCenter team,” she said in a release. “I’m looking forward to bringing impactful, inspiring, and transformative experiences to the community.”

“As a faith leader and organizer, Jenny’s experiences supporting local transformation through advocacy, equity work, and building stronger community-based partnerships give her the skills and passion for supporting The ArtCenter’s expanding presence in the Chapel Hill/Carrboro community,” The ArtsCenter said in its announcement.

In addition to announcing Shultz-Thomas’ hiring, The ArtsCenter published an official timeline for its upcoming relocation from its headquarters on Main Street. Its new location at 400 Roberson Street will begin renovations this August, with the move-in planned for next spring. Plans had previously been in place for The ArtsCenter to move to a site across from OWASA headquarters on Jones Ferry Road, but those have since been scrapped.

“What excites me most about our new building are the possibilities,” said deputy director Mark Bettger. “The new building will feature multi-purpose spaces, new technology for artistic education, and outdoor areas for classes and events. There will be much more at our fingertips to offer the community.”
