UPDATE: The Chapel Hill Police said Nathaniel Shamone Bryd turned himself in Wednesday evening. The police release published at 9:35 p.m. said Bryd has been charged with first degree murder, assault with a deadly weapon and robbery.
Bryd is being held without bond at the Orange County Detention Center and has his first court appearance at 2 p.m. Thursday.
The Chapel Hill Police Department named a suspect Wednesday morning in the fatal shooting along Creel Street last week.
Police said in a release they are searching for Nathaniel Shamone Byrd of Chapel Hill. The 41-year-old is charged with first degree murder.
On the morning of June 10, Chapel Hill Police found 50-year-old Ezzard Charles Stroud Jr. dead inside his home in the 100 block of Creel Street, with officers reporting he died of a gunshot wound. In Wednesday’s release, police said investigators later identified Byrd as the primary suspect in their examination. The release also said the department’s investigation into the case is ongoing.

Byrd is registered at an address on Knolls Street in Chapel Hill, which is just one block away from Creel Street in the Pine Knolls neighborhood.
Chapel Hill Police are encouraging anyone who has seen Byrd or has information on his whereabouts to call 911 or contact their department directly at 919-968-2760. Community members who wish to remain anonymous can also contact the Chapel Hill-Carrboro-UNC Crimestoppers at 919-942-7515. Police said information that leads to an arrest could be eligible for a reward up to $2,000.
