Following a late-season surge which saw them win 15 of 17 games and the ACC Tournament title, the Diamond Heels were named as the No. 10 national seed in the NCAA Tournament. That means the team will at least host a regional at Boshamer Stadium next weekend.

Joining UNC in the Chapel Hill regional are Hofstra, VCU and Georgia. The Tar Heels will open tournament play Friday at 2 p.m. against Hofstra, in the first-ever meeting between the two teams. Carolina is 19-19-1 all-time against Georgia, though the teams haven’t met since 2002. The Tar Heels are 21-6 all-time against VCU, having last played the Rams in 2020.

These will be the first NCAA Tournament games played in Boshamer Stadium since the 2019 season, when Carolina advanced to the super regionals before falling to Auburn. The 2020 tournament was cancelled due to the pandemic, and UNC went to the Lubbock regional in 2021.

The Tar Heels are 29-7 all-time in regional games played at Boshamer Stadium, having then advanced to the super regionals eight times under the current NCAA Tournament format, introduced in 1999. Should Carolina advance to the super regionals this season, it’s likely they would pay a visit to Stillwater, OK and No. 7 national seed Oklahoma State.

This is the 34th all-time appearance in the NCAA Tournament for the baseball program, and the second under head coach Scott Forbes.
