Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools announced five annual awards for the 2021-22 school year Thursday.

CHCCS named Aisha Howard of McDougle Elementary School in Chapel Hill its Principal of the Year. Lucas Paulsen of Carrboro High School was named Assistant Principal of the Year.

Emily Duncan, a math teacher at Chapel Hill High School, received the Jeanette Blackwell Mentor Teacher Award. Emily Giardina, the CTE fashion design teacher at Carrboro High, earned the Promising New Teacher Award.

Debby Atwater, the director of Digital Learning and Libraries, as well as Tim Gibson, the executive director of Elementary Schools, both earned the Central Office Administrator of the Year honors.

Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools superintendent Nyah Hamlett visited with the winning teachers and administrators during the past week to deliver the good news. The honorees will officially be recognized at a June 6 recognition ceremony at Carrboro High. CHCCS will also announce its Teacher of the Year at that ceremony, along with several other honors.
