UNC sophomore guard Deja Kelly got some good news on the eve of her team’s Sweet 16 game with No. 1 overall seed South Carolina Friday evening. The Women’s Basketball Coaches’ Association announced the regional finalists for its All-America team Thursday, and Kelly was among the 52 names on the list.

Kelly is one of 11 finalists among Region 1, ten of which come from ACC schools. Kelly is the only Tar Heel on the list, and is joined by names such as Elissa Cunane from NC State and Elizabeth Kitley from Virginia Tech. Both Cunane and Kitley also joined Kelly on the All-ACC first team this season.

The WBC selection committee will choose the 10-member All-America team from the field of finalists. The team will be announced on March 31. Carolina has had nine WBCA All-Americans in program history, most recently Erlana Larkins for the 2007-08 season.

Kelly and the Tar Heels will take the court in Greensboro against South Carolina at 7 p.m. on Friday night. The team is attempting to reach its first Elite Eight since the 2013-14 season.
