The UNC women’s basketball team received a No. 5 seed in this year’s NCAA Tournament, and will face No. 12 seed Stephen F. Austin in the first round. Carolina is part of the Greensboro region.

UNC’s first game will be played in Tucson, AZ. The Tar Heels are part of a four-team pod for the first and second rounds, hosted by No. 4 seed Arizona. The Wildcats will play No. 13 seed UNLV in the other first-round game in the pod.

Carolina enters the NCAA Tournament with a 23-6 overall record, having finished fourth in the ACC. They are seeking their first NCAA Tournament win since the 2014-15 season. The Stephen F. Austin Ladyjacks enter at 28-4, with a 17-1 record in the Western Athletic Conference. They are making their 20th all-time appearance in the NCAA Tournament.

South Carolina, the wire-to-wire top-ranked team this season, is the No. 1 seed in the Greensboro region. No. 2 seed Iowa, No. 3 Iowa State and No. 4 Arizona round out the top of the region. UNC hasn’t made an appearance in the Sweet 16 since the 2015 season. Coincidentally, that game was also played in Greensboro, and the Tar Heels also lost to No. 1 seed South Carolina.

Carolina will tip off with the Ladyjacks on Saturday, March 19. A start time is yet to be determined.
