Roy may be gone, but Late Night isn’t going anywhere. The traditional tip-off event that serves as the unofficial start of basketball season in Chapel Hill will come back for the 2021-22 campaign, even if the ‘Late Night With Roy’ title can’t be used anymore.
The men’s and women’s basketball programs announced Tuesday that this year’s Late Night event will take place the evening of October 15 in the Dean Smith Center. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m., and the event will begin at 7:30 p.m. As in the past, tickets are free and seating is general admission. This will be the first Late Night in two years, as the 2020-21 event was cancelled due to the pandemic.
UNC basketball fan Brian McLaughlin, better known by his Twitter alias “BDAHT” and described by the basketball program as an “actor, comedian and radio host” will emcee the event.
Festivities will include an introduction of the rosters of both teams, a three-point shootout, and scrimmages from both the women’s team and the men’s team.
The Late Night event will be part of a big weekend in Chapel Hill, as the following Saturday sees the UNC football team host Miami in Kenan Stadium. Kickoff time for that game is 3:30 p.m.
