After one season in Chapel Hill, UNC wing Luka Bogavac is entering his name into the transfer portal.
Bogavac’s journey to Carolina was a long one. After committing to the Tar Heels during the summer, the Montenegrin national dealt with eligibility issues which kept him out of UNC’s two exhibition contests. He was eventually cleared in the moments leading up to Carolina’s season opener in November. After getting over that hump, Bogavac played in all 33 of Carolina’s games and started 21. He averaged 9.8 points, 2.5 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game while shooting 34.9 percent on three-pointers.
Bogavac scored in double figures in nine of UNC’s first 10 games of the season, but failed to find that consistency as the Tar Heels entered ACC play. Following a Dec. 13 win against USC Upstate in which Bogavac scored 15 points, he would only reach double figures nine more times in Carolina’s final 23 games.
His best performance came in UNC’s final home game of the season against Clemson, when Bogavac scored 20 points and made six threes in 22 minutes. But he would struggle in the Tar Heels’ final three games of the season, all losses: against Duke, Clemson again in the ACC Tournament and VCU in the NCAA Tournament, Bogavac scored a combined 19 points and made only three combined threes.
Bogavac is the seventh Tar Heel currently in the transfer portal. As a rising senior, he will have one season of eligibility remaining. For a full list of UNC’s portal entrants, click here.
