The UNC men’s golf team claimed a share of the tournament championship on Wednesday at The Prestige, a 24-team event held on the Greg Norman Course at PGA West in La Quinta, California.

With a combined team score of 4-under-par for the 54-hole event, the Tar Heels tied with No. 4 Arizona for the championship.

No. 6 Pepperdine was one shot behind at 3-under-par, while fourth place in the tournament went to No. 2 Arizona State at 2-over-par.

On the individual leaderboard, the Tar Heels were led by Austin Hitt and Ryan Burnett. The duo each finished tied for fourth place with scores of 3-under-par, just one shot behind the tournament-winning score.

The title is the sixth UNC has won in the last four years under head coach Andrew DiBitetto.

“They were clutch,” DiBitetto said about his team afterwards. “We talk about being the most mentally tough team. We want to be able to come from behind and we did that today. Golf can beat you down and you don’t win a lot. So when you do, it’s phenomenal.”
