With a 2-0 shutout victory over the Virginia Cavaliers on Friday night at WakeMed Soccer Park in Cary, the UNC women’s soccer team officially punched its ticket to the ACC Tournament Championship game.

Claudia Dickey’s penalty kick goal just before halftime was the difference on the scoreboard, while Isabel Cox added the insurance goal with just over 10 minutes remaining in regulation.

As a result, the Tar Heels remain undefeated with a perfect 11-0-0 record this season while Virginia falls to 8-3-1.

Both teams racked up 11 shots in the match, but the UNC defense proved too much for the Cavaliers–who entered the night having scored 14 goals over their previous four matches.

“We are overjoyed about being in the ACC Championship. In this conference, even qualifying for the tournament is a huge achievement,” UNC head coach Anson Dorrance said afterwards. “UVA has extraordinary talent and I just want to tip my hat to this Virginia team. We are thrilled to advance and look forward to a matchup against a stellar Florida State team.”

The Tar Heels will try to defend their conference title in a rematch of last season’s ACC title game against Florida State. That game is scheduled for Sunday at noon.
