The UNC women’s soccer match against Virginia set for Thursday has been cancelled.

The Carolina Athletics Department announced the change on Wednesday, citing issues related to both injuries and COVID-19 on the Virginia women’s soccer roster. The the game scheduled for Thursday in Chapel Hill pitting the Cavaliers against No. 1 UNC has been canceled.

The top-ten matchup between the No. 1 ranked Tar Heels and No. 10 ranked Cavaliers was considered a non-conference game and will not be played. The ACC is one of four conferences playing women’s soccer in the fall, along with the Big 12, SEC and Sun Belt.

This news comes just one day after the Carolina volleyball program’s matches at Carmichael Arena against Virginia were also postponed. UNC cited COVID-19 and injuries again as the reason for the change. Instead, the Tar Heels will face off against Duke with matches on Friday and Sunday. The games are slated to begin at 6:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m., respectively.

UNC women’s soccer is currently 4-0 on the season, with a road game at Syracuse on Oct. 15 coming up next.
