Sunday was Senior Day for the UNC women’s basketball team at Carmichael Arena, however that was not enough to stop the team’s losing streak–which now sits at seven games after a 73-54 loss to the Duke Blue Devils in the regular season finale.
Taylor Koenen led the Tar Heels (16-13, 7-11 ACC) with 18 points in her final home game, while freshman Malu Tshitenge added 15 and fellow senior Shayla Bennett added 10.
Duke (18-11, 12-6 ACC) built a nine-point advantage by halftime and never allowed UNC to pull any closer throughout the second half on the way to clinching the season sweep in the rivalry.
The Blue Devils shot 49 percent from the floor, while holding the Tar Heels to just a 33 percent mark on the other end.
UNC was without junior forward Janelle Bailey for the third straight game, one of the team’s most important pieces in the frontcourt.
