The Town of Chapel Hill will hold a public information session for community members on the proposed plans for redevelopment along East Rosemary Street.
The meeting, which is being held in conjunction with developer Grubb Properties, is set for 6 p.m. on Thursday, February 27. The meeting will be held in Top of the Hill’s Great Room on East Franklin Street.
Chapel Hill orchestrated the meeting to invite the public to hear concepts for the proposed redevelopment project, which includes a 200,000 square-foot office building, wet lab space, a new parking deck and accessible green spaces. In addition, Grubb Properties owns an adjacent property that UNC is considering using the 136 East Rosemary property in some form to add to the “innovation hub” the town and developers are envisioning.
The Town Council heard the proposal at its meeting on February 19, unanimously authorizing the town manager to craft an understanding between the town and the developer in support of the project. Council members were aware of the plans ahead of the presentation due to the project involving a land swap with Chapel Hill, which would be necessary for Grubb Properties to construct the new office building and the expanded parking deck on the other side of the street.
Top of the Hill’s Great Room can be accessed off a ground-level entrance beside the old Walgreen’s location.
