Large gusts of wind have caused trees and power lines to fall, closing and obstructing public property in Hillsborough, Chapel Hill and Durham.
Hillsborough’s Riverwalk greenway, Gold Park and Kings Highway Park are closed after high wind gusts caused damage and created debris on the properties.
A tree fell across the Peggy Cates Bartow Loop Trail near Faribault Lane on the Riverwalk greenway. A release from the town said the greenway will remain closed until high winds have subsided and town staff can inspect the areas and remove hazards.
North Carolina Emergency Management says central North Carolina can expect gusts of wind 15 to 30 miles per hour.
Because of the wind advisory, the town of Hillsborough recommends that people use caution in public places such as Old Town and Town cemeteries. Both locations have large trees which may lose limbs in high winds.
Orange County government says the county will remain under a wind advisory until Friday afternoon.
In Chapel Hill, gusts of wind caused a tree to fall in the roadway on North Boundary Street.
