The West Hillsborough Sidewalk Connections Project, which looks to improve pedestrian safety and connectivity between west Hillsborough and the commercial area of South Nash Street, is nearing completion in the coming weeks, according to Town of Hillsborough officials.
A new guardrail was installed on Eno Mountain Road this week, and temporary water-filled barriers were removed. Next, workers will install fencing along the road. Asphalt will be patched along the new curb when there is a break in the rain.
Flagging crews will used as lane shifts and closures take place. Residents are advised to take caution driving in the area as construction finishes up. Businesses in the area will remain open and accessible.
The cost of the project is expected to end up at around $1.2 million, with the bulk of funding coming from the federal Congestion Mitigation and Air Quality program, according to the town. About $250,000 will come from the town, officials said.
The project is estimated to be completed later this month.
