Orange County residents are now eligible for disaster assistance in the wake of Hurricane Florence.

The county has been declared a disaster county and received an individual assistance declaration by the United States Department of Agriculture.

The declaration, according to a release from the county, allows the Orange County Department of Social Services to administer Disaster Food and Nutrition program benefits for those impacted from September 7 through October 6.

The DSNAP program “is designed to authorize Food and Nutrition benefits for eligible households that are not currently receiving Food and Nutrition benefits and experienced loss of income as a result of Hurricane Florence.”

Residents may qualify for up to one month of benefits. Eligibility is based on an individual household’s available income and resources, according to the county.

The declarations do not affect those residents impacted by Hurricane Michael.
