The Carrboro High School women’s soccer team continued its incredible run on Saturday night, by winning its third consecutive 2A State Championship with a 3-0 victory in Raleigh over West Stokes.
Goalkeeper Grace Nanney made a couple of critical saves early in the game, before Laura Sparling scored the opening goal for the Jaguars in the 16th minute.
A goal from Evie Joseph shortly after–scored after a beautiful cross from Katie Knotek–put Carrboro ahead 2-0 entering the halftime break.
With control of the game firmly in hand, the Jaguars focused on keeping possession for most of the second half.
Miah Araba added the third, and final, tally with a free kick goal in the 77th minute–but by then the outcome was no longer in doubt.
It was the 19th straight victory to close the season for Carrboro (21-1-1), and was the first of the Jaguars’ three state titles where overtime was not needed.
