An incredible season for the No. 3 UNC men’s soccer team ended Friday night in Philadelphia with a thud, as the No. 2 Indiana Hoosiers held on for a close 1-0 victory in the semifinals of the NCAA College Cup.

Andrew Gutman scored the only goal of the match in the 50th minute when he was on the receiving end of a brilliant corner kick from teammate Trevor Swartz.

The Tar Heels (17-4-1) had an 8-7 advantage in shots, but were never quite able to break through against Indiana goalkeeper Trey Muse as they turned up the pressure in search of the equalizer.

All-Americans Cam Lindley and Alan Winn each took shots for UNC down the stretch, however it would not be enough to save the season.

Indiana (18-0-6) will now move on to face Stanford in Sunday’s NCAA Championship Game.
