Two Chapel Hill landmarks will soon be under new leadership.
According to the News and Observer, the Ackland Art Museum and the North Carolina Botanical Garden are searching for new directors.
In June, the Ackland fired Emily Kass, who held the position since 2006. She reportedly left in July.
UNC’s vice provost for academic initiatives, Carol Tresolini, has said that a search would take place for Kass’ replacement, but that she wouldn’t speak to why the change was made. She did, however, tell the N&O that the museum’s mission had not changed.
The Botanical Garden’s director of 28 years, Peter White, says he’s ready to get back into the classroom full time. White says he will step down at the end of the year. He is 66 years old and teaches biology at UNC. He says he also wants time to work on a number of book projects.
The N&O reports that he told the University to give the position full-time status after his departure.
